I Survived Blog Her 2011!

If you read my last post, then you know I was insanely nervous about attending the Blog Her conference last weekend. Being a brand new blogger on the brink of meeting all of my “blogger idols” turned this confident, savvy mama into a weak in the knees, I think I might pass out MESS! So finally, as promised, here’s the lo-down on my Blog Her adventure….

Terri Babin and Kelly Wels at Blog Her 2011Day 1- I was off to the #HauteGreen social with Kyliana in tow to meet all of my cloth diaper blogging buddies! (Oh, and did I mention I had never met any of them in person before?) I can’t even begin to tell you how many butterflies were swarming in my stomach when I walked through the door, yet somehow I managed to remain calm and collected. I was greeted by Kelly Wels and The Eco Chic, both of whom I am a huge fan, and surprisingly, they both knew who I was! Hearing people say, “Oh, you’re Eco Crazy Mom, hi, it’s so nice to finally meet you!” was both weird, and exciting at the same time. I never realized that I too, had fans! I continued to meet many incredible ladies, and to my surprise I met 3 ladies that live here in San Diego- Julia, Sylvia and Rachel. The rest of the afternoon was spent chatting, exchanging business cards and eating some yummy Japanese food. Then, as the party was nearing an end a number of amazing door prizes were handed out, along with swag bags for all who attended. I came home with 5 cloth diapers, 4 mama cloth pads, tons of samples of cloth diaper detergent + diaper cream and a t-shirt. Thank you to all of the fantastic hosts and sponsors for HOOKING IT UP!! I left the social feeling much better about the weekend ahead, and my future as a blogger. I made some amazing connections within the cloth diapering community, and built the foundation for some great new friendships with some very special ladies.

After the #HauteGreen Social, I headed over to the Convention Center with Mona from Eco Nuts and had a great conversation along the way. Mona had to go home, so I headed into the Expo Hall with Kyliana to see what it was all about. The Expo was full of all kinds of brands/companies showcasing their products and giving away samples of everything you could imagine! By the time I left I had 2 full bags of “swag” from Ella’s Kitchen baby food, to Shari’s Berries  treats, and everything inbetween. Blog Her 2011 Expo Charmin Toilet Paper

Finally, it was time for Leon to pick up Kyliana so I could head over to The People’s Party. I was excited to see  SAPsMama  and Ashley Fitting there, who I met earlier at #HauteGreen. I also introduced myself to some other ladies throughout the party, and exchanged business cards with them too. Everyone was very accepting and eager to make new friends, many were attending Blog Her for the first time as well.

Day 2 & Day 3- By the time day 2 of Blog Her rolled around I had all kinds of new friends! I arrived at the “Newbie Breakfast” with my head held high, ready to conquer the world, or at least the blogosphere. Then I was off to the lactation lounge to nurse Kyliana, where I met even more great ladies. I want to thank Blog Her for creating the lactation lounge, it was a real blessing! After nursing my little woogie woo (aka Kyliana), I was off to the first session of the day, followed by lunch and then 2 more breakout sessions. I don’t want to bore you with every last detail, so let me just tell you the sessions were A-MAZ-ING! If you are a blogger and you ever have an opportunity to go to Blog Her, by all means GO, you will not regret it. After the third break out session I headed back to the expo hall for a bit, met more great brands/companies and yes, got even more swag. Then, once again, at the end of the day my fantastic husband came to the rescue and picked up Kyliana so I could party it up with all of my new blogging buddies. First, I headed over to the Omni to a private party hosted by Eden Fantasies! (For the sake of this being a family friendly blog, I’ll leave it at that and add that Leon was very excited by the swag I brought home from that party, haha!) After that I headed back to the Convention Center for Sparklecorn, where I got all decked out with glow sticks and had a crazy fun night with even more new friends.

Saturday was the last day, and it was no less amazing than the first two. I met a super sweet mama from Bebehblog at breakfast who held Kyliana while I ate, and even gave her a soft bunny that she crocheted herself! Then, once again I was off to the lactation lounge, followed by the breakout sessions for the day. I was thoroughly enjoying every minute of the conference, but have to admit I found myself halfway dozing off during the last breakout session…embarrassing, I know. I must have been exausted after all of the partying on Thursday & Friday night. Anyways, after the last breakout session I managed to muster up enough energy to make it for the final general session of the day. I mean, how could I miss seeing Ricki Lake, I am a die hard fan of her documentary “The Business Of Being Born” and I’m so glad I went!

After the final general session it was time to say farewell to all of my new friends, and head back home to reality. A few minutes later Leon arrived to pick us up, and in what seemed like the blink of an eye, my Blog Her weekend came to an end.

So, after literally freaking out and almost not going, I’m proud to announce that not only did I survive Blog Her 2011, it was one of the best weekends of my life!
