The Real Diaper Association (RDA) is once again hosting the Great Cloth Diaper Change (GCDC) on April 21st at over 200 locations around the U.S. and around the globe. During last year’s diaper change event 5,026 babies (and their parents) set the Guinness Book World Record for the most babies changed into a cloth diaper at the same time. For the entire week before the GCDC the RDA has asked the community to help them celebrate the first ever Real Diaper Week. Through this week long event parents will be asked to help educate and advocate on behalf of the cloth diapering community. Each day will have a unique theme with suggestions on how you can help in your own communities.
Below are some ways that you can participate in Real Diaper Week online and in your own communities:
April 16th - Teach others about cloth diapers: wear your cloth diaper gear, buttons, or tees; teach a local cloth diapering class, invite a pregnant friend over to see your stash, or write a blog post about why you use cloth diapers.
April 17th - Real Simple Real Diaper Waste Reduction: Talk with your local waste company, environmental group, or government officials about ways they can help promote cloth diapers as a form of waste reduction.
April 18th - Real Simple Real Diaper Savings: Teach a class on using cloth diapers to a low income family support group or agency. Write a blog post about how cloth diapers have saved your family money so that you can provide food and shelter for them. Donate some of your diapers to an organization that will distribute them to low income families (like Giving Diapers, Giving Hope).
April 19th - Real Simple Real Diapers for Babies: Reach out to a day care, pediatrician or hospital and share the health benefits of cloth diapers.
April 20th - Real Simple Real Diapers Reuse: Challenge yourself to add one more reusable item to your list of products you use in your home. Switch from paper towels to cloth towels, switch from tampons/pads to reusable menstrual products like mama pads or Diva Cup, or make your own cloth wipes from old t-shirts.
April 21st - Great Cloth Diaper Change 2012: Invite a friend to join you at a GCDC event near you. For a complete listing of official locations please visit: http://greatclothdiaperchange.

Can’t attend The Great Cloth Diaper Change? You can still make a difference!
While many of you will be volunteering or participating in the event, those of you who are unable to make it the event or no longer have a little one to be changed can still help our efforts to increase awareness about cloth diapers. You can do so by joining a personal pledge I created to donate for every 1,000 diapers changed during the Great Cloth Diaper Change. While I’m donating $5 per 1,000 diapers changed to the Real Diaper Association, you can contribute $1, $10, or $20 per 1,000 diapers changed during the event.
Also be sure to check out and sign up for the Change 3 Things Challenge!
Join us on April 21st, 2012 as we attempt to break the world record for the most cloth diapers changed at one time! This world record attempt is a great way to show the world how many people are already choosing and using reusable cloth diapers successfully. Last year we set the Guinness World Record of 5,026 participants at 127 locations in 5 countries!
This year, we will be hosted by the fraternity Sigma Phi Epsilon at the University of San Diego. The event will take place in Salomon Hall, which is an event room in Maher Hall, directly next to the Immaculata Church (where you should plan to park).
*PLEASE NOTE: There will also be a Great Cloth Diaper Change event in Vista at Babies in Bloom (register here: http://bibgcdc2012.eventbrite.com/) and in Chula Vista at Buggies and Babies (RSVP here: https://www.facebook.com/events/350781544965660/). If you would rather attend at one of those locations please register through their sites and not below. Thanks!
Even if you don’t currently use cloth diapers you can still participate! Local diaper service companies will be on-site providing FREE prefold cloth diapers to use for the change if you don’t have your own. Or you can borrow from a friend. Let us show you how easy, economical and eco-friendly cloth diapering can be!
1. Arrive on time (9am)! The “change” happens at 9:30am but you must arrive at 9am in order to check in and for us to be able to count everyone.
2. BYO reusable cloth diapers. For this record, each baby must be changed from a cloth or disposable diaper into a reusable cloth diaper that must be able to be purchased online or in a retail store. Unfortunately, homemade diapers that are not commercially available cannot be used. This is a very strict rule from Guinness World RecordsTM. Trainers will not count. It must be a 100% reusable cloth diaper.
3. All babies and toddlers to be changed must be 39 inches or shorter. If you are bringing older children, we’ll have a supervised play area just outside the changing area so it doesn’t get too crowded.
4. Each baby must be paired with exactly one adult participant. There will be extra adults. Please let us know if you need a pair of helping hands for additional children to be changed.
5. Plan for contingencies: don’t forget your wetbag, extra wipes (preferably reusable cloth wipes!), a changing pad, and a healthy dose of good humor!
Donation request: Please bring $1 (or more) as a donation to the Real Diaper Association, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to spreading the word about reusable cloth diapers. You may also donate through paypal when you preregister for the event.
The first 50 participating attendees to arrive will receive a FREE goody bag! There will also be snacks, raffle prizes and coloring sheets for older children.
