In case you haven’t noticed, I’ve recently fallen in love with wool dryer balls!
What is a wool dryer ball?
A wool dryer ball is a felted ball of wool that you use in your clothes dryer to help separate your clothes. Having several in your dryer creates a constant motion that allows for more air to circulate around your wet laundry so your clothes will dry faster. The more dryer balls you use, the less time it takes to dry a load and you can reduce your dry time by 10 –25%. Wool dryer balls are absolutely ideal for any and all laundry, including cloth diapers, and are an essential asset to help reduce dry time, conserve energy and save you money!
I recently had the opportunity to review Wooly Rounds wool dryer balls lovingly made by a cloth diapering mama in Camden, Maine. Cyndi began using wool dryer balls when she learned about the harmful chemicals found in traditional dryer sheets. She purchased a set of four wool dryer balls, and loved the benefits they offered, but noticed they were lacking in quality. After making some dryer balls of her own, and discovering she had a solid finished product Cyndi Launched Wooly Rounds in October 2010 and has been dedicated to enhancing sustainable laundry products ever since!
Each Wooly Round wool dryer ball is made individually by hand using 100% local, lanolin-rich wool. They are a safe, durable, high-quality wool dryer ball crafted right in midcoast Maine. Each one is approximately the size of a tennis ball, ~9 inches in circumference and weighs ~ 2oz. Wool is used because of its incredible properties including the ability to:
- help reduce static – wool fibers can absorb static cling
- naturally soften clothes due to the friction of the balls against the fabric
- makes clothes fresher and smell cleaner – since wool has the ability to absorb toxins and odors
I’m still pretty new to wool dryer balls, but so far I’m loving them! They’re a lot like cloth diapers in a way, you can never have too many, and no matter how many you have you always want more! Wooly Rounds are the second set of wool dryer balls I’ve had the opportunity to try, so I was interested to see if they were any different from the others. To be honest, I really wasn’t expecting to see a big difference, I mean, wool is wool, right? WRONG! The Wooly Rounds were much firmer than the other dryer balls, and quite a bit larger as well. I also loved that they came in a variety of colors, complete with a handy little drawstring bag for storage. But the real difference appeared to me after using them for several weeks. My other wool dryer balls got very fuzzy & piled after just a few uses, but even after using the Wooly Rounds many times they still looked brand new! Check out the picture below to see for yourself!
I’ve said it at least a dozen times, and I’ll say it again- it never ceases to amaze me how mother nature can provide us with everything we need! I love that these natural, sustainable wool dryer balls have the power to not only make my laundry incredibly soft and fluffy, but also eliminate static and significantly reduce the amount of drying time needed- all without the use of any chemicals. We live in our clothing 24/7, so if you are new to “going green” or looking to reduce your family’s exposure to chemicals, the laundry room is a great place to start.
Using wool dryer balls will also save you money! You can buy a set of 3 Wooly Rounds for $23.50, or a set of five for just $36.25 and they’ll last for years to come. These will also reduce the amount of time it takes for your laundry to dry, saving you even more money on your gas & electric bill!
Want to save even more money? Wooly Rounds is currently offering a great deal on their second quality wool dryer balls! These will work just as well as the regular Wooly Rounds, however they have some minor cosmetic defects- You can get a set of 3 for $19.00, 5 for $31 0r 7 for just $42.00! These sell out super fast so if you would like some, don’t delay!
Bottom Line: After using wool dryer balls and reaping all of the benefits, I can’t even imagine going back to dryer sheets. If you haven’t experienced the magic of wool dryer balls for yourself, I definitely recommend giving them a try!

i love that they will reduce static! We have a woodstove and the static in everything is so bad! When i pull my clothes out of the dryer they all stick together from the static. These sound great!

I’m excited that I can get the same results as traditional dryer sheets without the chemicals. Very nice!
I knew that dryer balls shortened the drying cycle, conserving energy and money, but I didn’t know that wool ones can help with static and make clothes SOFTER! I’m all for it!
Speeding up the drying time gets me excited! It seems like my laundry always takes hours and then I still have to run it an extra 10-20 minutes to get it fully dry.
Thanks for stopping by and am following, not sure if the google plus added right. It’s new to me and all it shows is adding to a certain circle. Email me if there is a problem. Thanks.

I love that they shorten dryer time and help keep your linens and towels soft. There is nothing worse than rough clothes!
I’m excited about the reduced drying time and energy savings since I have three sons and seem to do laundry daily.
I’ve been using a WAHM wool dryer balls, but they’ve done exactly what you’ve shown in your comparison picture. Washing and drying them has helped but the difference you’ve pointed out is remarkable. The commenter that remarked about the Wooly Rounds being the best she’s tried and not sticking to velcro really makes me want to try them even more
i did not know that they soften the clothes to. thanks, i love saving money
I like that everyone says that ir reduces dyer time

Making clothes softer!
I’m excited that they reduce drying time, but even more excited that they will soften my clothes!
Iam excited to start going green in the laundry room. If I do not win this raffle I will buy some wool dryer balls. You have also inspired me to make my own laundry soap.
I like that people mentioned cloth diapers and dryer balls because I have not put mine in the dryer often.

I have heard from several people how the wool balls help with reducing the amount of time to dry clothes. Also, they stated they save money using them because they no longer use softner sheets and other chemical products.
I am really looking forward to using them!!
